The Key to Happiness?  Body Awareness, Energy and Spirit

Although there are different ways to make a happy life, I believe that one of the keys is to become aware of the energy, spirit and consciousness in your body. When I started my quest 20 years ago, I didn’t really understand this.  I half-heartedly tried to meditate and got mixed results.

Okay, to be honest, I couldn’t really sit still.  Some people seem to do it easily and I just wasn’t one of those people. With practice, my mind did calm and I was able to discern different areas of consciousness, do some maneuvering and steady myself.

Over the years, I first learned to be conscious of my heart with some ease.  Then, I worked at being present in my pelvis.  Every time I became aware of a new place in my body, I also learned there was a natural order to things.

The heart was for connection and a sense of self, the head for intricate thought and spiritual patterns, and the pelvis for creation and power.”

There was a real value to becoming aware of and connecting to different parts of my body.  I had read that different parts of our bodies hold different types of information, but it was really something to see and feel it firsthand.

The body holds secrets. I was such a skeptic I would never have believed it.  As time went on, I experienced a connection to God, the planet, other people, my ancestors, some things I understood and others I didn’t.  I could sense and feel we are in a wonderful, delicate web that holds and sustains us.  I gradually found my place in all that information.

“Living only in my head was a trap I didn’t know I was in.”

The more I became aware, the more life made sense.  Things that bothered me stopped bothering me.  I could gracefully accept more responsibility and power as my energetic body healed.  I began to feel peace.  I felt at home in my own skin for the first time.

Sounds good, right?  Well, it wasn’t all easy.  Sometimes I was aware of not so good things that other people and groups of people were creating. Their vibes could be harsh and the information I was picking up on under the surface didn’t feel good.  I could see that talking bad about people, power plays, bullying and harmful intentions and energy were also part of the fabric of consciousness here.  As I became aware of myself, I understood that these forces and information were interacting with my body and stressing me out even though I wasn’t aware of them before.  I quickly realized that the more conscious I became, the more important it was for me to defend myself.

I started to see that I was broken in some areas and I learned how to assist my body in healing itself.  It wasn’t always comfortable to feel places in myself which were dysfunctional.  I had to invent tools and language to describe these places and what to do with them.  There is a vulnerability to being conscious that I didn’t have to deal with when I was unaware.  The information was always there, but becoming aware of it was intense.  I was taking the load my body was under and learning how to manage it for myself.

I had to learn how to ‘read’ flows of energy that carried both good and bad things.  The skills weren’t particularly difficult, but I sure could have benefited from a guide.  A guide would potentially have saved me a lot of time in orienting and learning how to protect myself from things other people weren’t aware of.  I was finally able to get my footing and I could stay present for longer periods of time.  I noticed health benefits and other changes in me were only possible when I was aware or present for long periods of time.  Short bursts weren’t enough.  Being present for a class or a seminar for a few days wasn’t enough to create long term changes.  My body needed consistent awareness to maintain and repair itself.  My energy and spirit needed to be present for longer periods of time for magic to happen and I needed a skillset to do that.

Over time, this process changed my life.  It was astoundingly beautiful, but there were skillsets that needed to happen to manage myself as present and vulnerable.  I was sculpted by the forces I met and continue to meet.  Being conscious isn’t always as easy as it may seem.  It can be a struggle, confusing and painful to become aware of what is in you and around you.  I am here to say it is worth it.  I am so glad I hung in there.

When I see people walking out of their yoga class and rising to meet the challenges of the day, I believe they should have the tools to keep the power, awareness, calmness and connection they achieved in that setting to last throughout the whole day.  It is possible.  Keeping composure, remaining calm and present is the key but so is defending the state that has been achieved, repairing energy leaks and creating healthy relationships.

Energetic street smarts are necessary to defend your work and your hard-earned connections.

If I could go back, I would have cut way down on the time I spent learning by understanding the difference between the energetic and spiritual worlds and how to navigate them.  Creating and managing awareness are the basic skills that are necessary to open us up to all that we are.

Protecting Your Spirit and Energy While Making a Living

Money is a massive and important topic.  Cash is wrapped up in self-worth, survival, protection and the ability to create the life you want in the physical world.  My focus today will be on protecting yourself energetically and spiritually while you make money.

“Money can get you the physical items you want, but how do you protect your vitality and energy while you make it? ”

The current monetary system allows us to consume products and goods from someone else’s labor.  The value of spirit and energy aren’t factored into this model so the company who spends less time making more goods usually wins. Time is money so why spend hours being conscious and doing self-work?   From a financial perspective, it makes no sense to connect with God and the earth, maintain your energetic body and tend to your spirit.

Ahhh, but how does happiness factor into this equation?  This is perhaps the biggest argument and really the only one that makes any sense as far as conscious work is concerned.  After all, why do something that would take time from business and leisure?

In my experience, conscious work pays off in terms of vitality and energy but not monetarily. However, meditation, energy work, contemplation and healing in all its different forms are key to a good life. At CS we believe in protecting your spirit and vitality is a key part of happiness. Making money is important too so learning the tools to stay energetically and spiritually intact are essential to navigating the world of business.

Things get interesting when you factor in how much energy it takes to do large amounts of business. To make a lot of money, you need to create a “buzz” around your product. This is true whether you are selling widgets or teaching children basic skills. You have to create and maintain interest which requires a large amount of energetic output. The key question is, “where is all this energy going to come from?”

Energy can come from the natural world. Healthy energy can be made by individuals through eating, breathing and their connection to the planet, God and others.  People can then export their excess energy to their work and money endeavors. This is the natural way of things. The problem is that there is a limit to how much energy people can create this way. If businesses need more energy than their employees and the earth can give, they can get more through unhealthy means. People being hurt while doing business is common as we stress the earth and ourselves to be more productive.

“The all too common way we make money is through hurting people by taking their energy or even taking their energetic structure.”

If people are getting their energy from other people, this can be healthy or unhealthy.  There is a reality to getting injured or hurt while trying to make money.  People joke about their company taking their soul and I have seen the results of years in corporate and the toll it can take.  Many people are grateful to have jobs but complain bitterly about the stress and the human cost to making money.  You can’t live without money, but you can make money and protect yourself from damaging work environments.  It is important to have both money and a means to make money without losing yourself to the game.

When business is abusive, it will suck up worker’s energy like a vacuum cleaner. Pointless meetings, over regulation, demeaning schedules and work drama are often the physical manifestations of energetic or spiritual manipulation. People start losing vitality, take on monetary obligations and become stressed out as they leverage their lives as early as the late 20’s. They are given more responsibility and the people above them need energy to keep the company going. They can spend long hours at their vocation, loose energy and start to fall apart.

I pick up the pieces in my office all the time. A bad work environment is the number one thing that hurts people outside of family. The work environment needs a lot of energy to grow, fight competitors and create infrastructure.  It must get this energy from somewhere. It even takes people’s energy after they are done at the job!

“No matter what your vocation or income level, it is important to protect yourself. “

The skill sets we need to have in order to stay energetically healthy while in the business world are to recognize the signs of energetic stress,  how to do repair and how to interact with large amounts of energy from others.

Here are some other things you can do:

  • Don’t let the business environment take the energy out of your personal conversations with co-workers, customers or your personal life. Learn to read the energetic flow and stop inappropriate energy leaks.
  • Create a solid boundary between the energetic work environment and other places in your life which are vulnerable to having the energy taken from them. This means work needs a strong boundary separating it from other projects, family and friends.
  • Make sure you get some energy back with your paycheck, not just the money. If this doesn’t happen, take steps to protect yourself.
  • The longer you work at a job, the deeper the association you have with the company even if your position or paycheck doesn’t change. This means that your position and energetic liability in the company changes as you deepen into your role.
  • Learn to repair the damage which has already occurred so it doesn’t get worse under stress.

The Importance of Energy In Healthy Relationships

Have you ever felt like you didn’t have the energy to relate to someone? Be it a partner, co-worker, friend or family member, it is sometimes hard to muster the energy to engage.  You know how to act and what to say, but you aren’t able to find the energy. Worse yet, you can be left feeling drained and exhausted afterward.

The effort it takes to interact with people is a major investment of time and energy.  Energy is a key part of relationship in addition to words, body language, tone, glances, etc.

“Some people are saying
the right words, but under the surface
they are taking your energy
and playing games”

My experience has been that even when some people are saying the right words, the energy underneath the communication can be difficult. This doesn’t happen with everyone but enough that it deserves a skill set.   Some people don’t want to commit their own resources so they hide behind the energy of their jobs, roles or social positions.  It feels hollow and pointless at best.  Some play games to trap parts of us in weird energetic games, which can be frustrating and hurtful.  Many times they don’t even know they are doing it!  Energy games can make or break relationships because they are so ceaseless and powerful.

Learning about energy allowed me to discern and interact with people more efficiently.  Most people aren’t very in touch with their bodies, let alone their energy so things can be intense under the surface even though they don’t mean to be.  I needed tools to identify and address this current.  Many times people are just out of energy.  I had to learn when communication was possible and when people didn’t have enough energy for rational communication.    In these instances, their behavior won’t match their words.  Energy rules the roost.  If it is balanced, then communication makes sense and is productive.  If it is out of balance, it is often a waste of time or even hurtful.

It’s not like the western world is a stranger to energy in relationships.  It describes it with words like charisma, drive, magic and chemistry. Or phrases like, “he’s got it!” In other words, there is something going on that people are picking up on even when no words are spoken.

From my current vantage point, relationships need good, consistent and generally positive communication styles. There is nothing better than having the energy and discernment to create positive, strong communication and bonds.   Relationships require a lot of consistent energy.  There has to be energy underneath that supports the verbal communication. Knowing when to add energy, when to take it away, how much and what type to add, are foundational steps to any relationship.  Then, what you say will be backed with the correct energy.  This makes relationships fun as you create with others and drive around the potholes!  How much energy you have and how it flows in and around the people you are with, is essential to the success of your relationships with family, friends, romance and social life.

Why Today’s World Requires a Modern Spiritual Path

I went into a spiritual journey with an open mind.  It turned out to be a lot different than what I thought it would be.  I stayed isolated from other people during the time I was questing. I probably should have had mentors, but by my reckoning, I needed a novel approach for a new world. I have differing opinions because of my experiences.

“I needed a novel approach
for a new world.”

I think we live in dynamic and unfamiliar times.  This time in the world’s history calls for a different approach.  There are more people on this planet than ever before, we are in the midst of a huge extinction event, and we are interconnected together all over the world by phones, computers and the internet.  These factors have changed us and our world in unprecedented ways.  The spiritual path is now woven into technology, social media and other people’s energy.

During the times that many of the world’s major religions and belief systems were being formulated, the times were different.  There weren’t as many people.  We weren’t interconnected.  Our ecosystems and their vitality were different.  The earth’s energy has changed as people sculpt the world we live in.   The planet is compensating, but it is not the same as it was even in my short lifetime.  There are more of us competing for the planet’s physical and energetic resources, so we are having to relate to ourselves and others in new ways.

Another large change that needs a novel approach is that we are all emoting together.  For example, before technology news would travel slowly and over time.  When the basics of psychology and social sciences were developing, there were only 1.5 billion people on the planet and they were geographically spread out.  When an event happened, news traveled on horseback or by boat, resulting in a delay to the energy created by emotion. Therefore, the slow dissemination of information which involved fewer people had a negligible effect.

Now, there are 7 billion people on the planet and news travels all over the world instantly. The energy created by that many people processing all at once is now important. It has a large effect. During my energetic and spiritual journey, it was vital that I take this into account. It allowed me to navigate what was mine versus other which was a critical step on any path to healing energetically or spiritually.  It is a new world in the physical and in the non-physical as well.

I had to get smart when I was doing a western version of a spiritual path.  I learned to take what I could from the old ways and invent new things when I had to.  Energetic repair, collective conscious, a new way of looking at energy and relationships and the changing planet were all concepts which I needed to move forward.  This is a time of great advancement on a path if you know how to move forward in our changing world.

Why CS

Conscious Systems was born out of a need. After working as a doctor for a few years, I realized like so many doctors before me that healing often had to happen at non-physical levels in addition to the physical.  Chronic disease and strange cases became most of my practice.  To heal, people need to have vitality and a deep sense of self to fight their diseases.  I had to go to the worlds of energy and spirit to understand a larger picture of health, wellness,  happiness, purpose, stability and vitality.

Over time I found that we needed a new language to describe these realms. This language had to describe and map out the world of spirit and energy in a way that empowered us individually and linked us to each other and the environments we live in.  People have many different needs.  Sometimes they just want some help untangling something in their energy or spirit.  Sometimes they needed to correct things themselves.  Often their disease was part of their spiritual path or life meaning.  Creating a language like CS empowers people by giving them access to their own energetic and spiritual bodies so that they can participate in the non-physical part of their wellbeing.

“CS empowers people by giving
them access to their own energetic
and spiritual bodies.”

Over time, I found this language had more applications than healing.  We need non-religious systems which help us interact with the one spiritual and energetic constant that we all share; the human body.  The complex mix of physical, energetic and spiritual was achieved over billions of years.  As life evolved, it evolved in a balance with all the forces which make it up.  Even the energetic and spiritual forces that allowed us to be human had to develop over time.

CS is a language which describes and supportively interacts with the body’s own systems.  When designing it, I tried not to interject any of my own belief systems in it.  Rather, I was trying to describe what bodies naturally do and assist them with that.  This leads to wellbeing, healthy communication and the opportunity to know yourself deeply. It allows people to reconnect what is broken and go deeper into life.

CS gives us a view into the body’s energetic and spiritual structures, how they act when healthy and a way to troubleshoot them when they need help. We can describe healthy communication and balance by examining the energetic and spiritual worlds and assist them when necessary.   CS is a language and technique which allows us to troubleshoot, tune, fix and balance the vast parts of us that aren’t physical.

Most of the time your spirit and energetic parts are directing you into healthy states.  However, these systems can be wounded.  Sometimes the energetic or spiritual body isn’t intact enough to heal itself. What you inherit from your family line, interactions with other people now and in the past and society can all stop you from being healthy.  The goal is to be the most intact version of yourself that you can be.

“CS is a language and technique which allows us to troubleshoot, tune, fix and balance the vast parts of us that aren’t physical.”

I have lived and breathed this world for long enough to understand the hope this approach can offer.   I have witnessed the body’s intelligence, the sources of interconnection, and how strong and delicate it all is.  What can be greater than learning to help your body bring out its best version of you.   Energy, spirit and consciousness are the keys to happiness, wellbeing and even survival. This approach explains why bodies sometimes aren’t able to heal themselves and how an individual can assist.  This prepares us for all the different parts of life: career, family, social life and even a spiritual path.  It is accessible to everyone regardless of spiritual affiliation, religion or belief system. The things I learned while developing and interacting with the intelligence of my body changed my life.  I hope it does the same for you.
